Pod Casts and Talking PowerPoints

POD CASTS
Podcasting is creating a mini radio show  which can be listened to over the computer, shared on the internet even taken to the gym on your iPod!
How can we use this format in our program?
In a practical manner, we could record information that the students need to hear everyday.  Perhaps we could record the rules and then have them listen to the recording.  The consistency might improve retention.
For our audio learners, we could easily read and record lessons from general education curriculum.  This would eliminate the need to wait for a recorded version of the text.
Finally, I would love to begin recording our language kids so that they could hear themselves.

It is very easy to do using a Mac and Garage Band.  Here is a link for step-by-step instructions.  http://www.how-to-podcast-tutorial.com/
Apple also offers very easy to follow instructions.  Either go to Help or follow this link http://www.apple.com/education/podcasting/
Others in our schools that are very good at podcasts include Mrs. Isbell, Mrs. Rickey and Rob.

TALKING POWERPOINTS
We have been using PowerPoints for presentations and page layouts with our students for years.  They have proven to be a very effective and easy way for the kids to design picture layouts and slide shows.  Now, we can introduce them to adding narrative.  Simply by talking into the built-in mic while turning pages, the powerpoint can turn into a much more informative medium without the kids having to continually give the presentation.  I think this will be very useful with ServiceLearning grant proposals.  We have always had good luck with student designed presentations.  Can you imagine what will happen when it is their voice as well??
Also effective with voice recordings and pictures for vocabulary, music and reading lessons using the computer!
